FireMaster Facilitators are Trained and Ready

Five new FireMaster facilitators have been trained! FireMasters are educators that we have trained to conduct FIFE workshops. Pandion’s FIFE program managers, Christine Denny and Peter Colverson, worked with and trained the group during a 2-day workshop at the Florida Division of Forestry’s Brooksville Training Center.

The new FireMaster facilitators are:

Jean Knight, Starkey Wilderness Preserve and Cross Bar Ranch, Pasco County
Karen Folsom, Nature’s Classroom, Hillsborough County
Daniel Cole, Tibbett Butler Preserve, Orange County
Craig Carr, Osceola Environmental Studies Center, Osceola County
Jennifer Cleary, Calusa Nature Center, Lee County

New Look, Online Access to Materials

FIFE has a new look! The curriculum package includes all the same great materials with videos, posters, and brochures – plus 2 new activities. Now we’ve made it easier to access the activities and materials online.

From the Educators Zone you can download the full curriculum, print individual activities and student worksheets, and view posters, teaching PowerPoints, videos, and other resources.

Booking Workshops Now

Workshops will begin this summer and we have started booking them at facilities around the state. If you would like to host a workshop in your area or be notified of upcoming dates, let us know by signing up to participate. If you have already signed up (here or at the Pandion website), we will be contacting you soon.

New FireMaster Facilitators Program Starts Soon

We will be accepting applications for 8 new facilitators as part of the new FireMaster program. Trained FireMasters will be able to conduct educator workshops and represent FIFE at conferences and events. The application process will open in June. You can sign up to be notified when applications are available.

New Activities Added to the Curriculum

We have added 2 new activities to the curriculum to complement the original 11. In “Fire and Florida’s Natural Habitats” students learn about fire-adapted ecosystems and create a fire management plan (grades 9-12). In “What is the Role of Fire in the Carbon Cycle?” students learn by “traveling” through the carbon cycle and forest fires in Florida as a carbon molecule (grades 6-12). The full curriculum and teaching resources will be available in the Educators Zone.
